Whine, whine, whine
As a fangirl, I’m tired of fanboys who constantly complain about superhero movie footage. They did this with the first The Incredible Hulk trailer (before the CGI for the movie was even finished) and are now doing it with the Wolverine clip shown at Comic Con. All we have to look at currently are blurry pictures pulled from the clip. Yet fans on various websites are complaining about how Wolverine has bone claws, Gambit’s missing the red eyes, Deadpool isn’t scarred, etc. Wah, wah, wah. Uh, hello, the movie just started post production!!! Before he showed the clip, Hugh Jackman even said they had just finished filming and the clips were rushed together. So Gambit’s red eyes can be added in during post production (as most CGI is). As for the bone claws, it’s been established in later comics that Logan originally had bone claws before Weapon X added the adamantium onto them. And Deadpool? As a few people are pointing out, the movie is called X-Men Origins: Wolverine. ORIGINS. As in pre a lot of things including probably Deadpool getting the healing factor and the scars. Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll get the scars during the movie (or he’ll get his own movie). Also Ryan Reynolds is a big Deadpool fan so I’m sure he’d say something if he didn’t think they were staying true to the character. I think everyone just needs to wait for an official trailer once post production has been happening for awhile and just be happy with what we’ve been given now. Personally I’m just excited to see pictures of Gambit (one of my favorite characters ever) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds is the PERFECT casting). So just sit back, enjoy what we’ve been given, and try and wait patiently for an actual teaser. Or why don’t you wait until the actual movie comes out in 2009 and give your opinion then???
It Continues…

This comic pretty much sums up how I felt after I saw The Dark Knight the first time. But since that midnight showing, I’ve seen it once more and will probably see it 2-3 more times. So I’m set. =) Now the question is which movie will be my next obsession for the 2nd half of the year? 2006 had The Departed and 2007 had No Country for Old Men (both later became Best Picture Academy Award Winners). Fall 2008 might be Burn After Reading, but I don’t know if anything can top my excitement for The Dark Knight. It’s up there with Ocean’s Trilogy and No Country for Old Men excitement, in which I talked about it nonstop months beforehand and squealed every time a commercial came on or it was mentioned in a video or article on the internet. So Fall 2008 movies, I’m ready for you (and 2009 as well. I’m looking at you, Wolverine and Watchmen).
P.S. How does someone who despises smoking so much have so many pictures of actors smoking in her Photobucket account?
This post was brought to you by Harvey Dent
Commissioner Gordon
And Batman himself (and in response to the current Christian Bale charges, I have to say Team Christian all the way!)

The #1 Movie of 2008
Iron Man was able to hold the #1 spot for 2 months; I could honestly say that it was my favorite movie of 2008 and my favorite comic book movie. But I knew it wouldn’t last. After seeing all The Dark Knight previews, there was no doubt that TDK would blow me away. And it lived up to expectations.
Joe, Justine, and I headed to the midnight showing around 10:45. There were already lines for the 12:00, 12:05, and 12:10 showings set up. Even though I was on crutches, we unfortunately didn’t get to cut everyone. We sat in about the 5th or 6th row and settled in for the hour. Everyone was either Joe’s age or our age and not attractive. As I told Justine, the cute nerds must all be in NYC. Once previews started, the crowd got all riled up and booed previews they didn’t like (The Mummy and Swing Vote) and cheered ones they loved (Watchmen). I even flashed my Bat Signal light on the ceiling before the movie started (thanks to my Batman messenger bag).
As for The Dark Knight, it was AMAZING!!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Or as Joe said after he kept looking over at me, I had a smile on my face the whole time (had I been Jokerized?). There were parts where I was clapping and getting very giggly cause I was excited. It was a perfect mix of suspense, action, and chaos. The movie emphasized what chaos can do to a city and what decisions people would make when faced with death or doing the right thing. The boat scene had me holding my breath. One of the questions from the first movie came into play in this one as well: Is Gotham City worth saving? And does the city need Batman or a more tangible hero (like Harvey Dent, the white knight to Batman’s dark knight)? The movie even made winks to the fans by including Scarecrow at the beginning and showing the complete transformation of Harvey Dent to Two Face. He lived long enough to see himself become the villain. And Jim Gordon is THE MAN (Gary Oldman can do no wrong). The Dark Knight exceeded expectations, and it is a sequel that surpassed its predecessor.
After complaining about the use of Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, I have to say that the casting was perfect in this movie. Heath Ledger was amazing as The Joker. He’s a mix of charisma and chaos, and even though his actions are disturbing, you cheer for him anyway. He is a force to be reckoned with, and he was terrifying. I remember when he was originally cast and people complained a lot. I told myself that I’d reserve judgment until I saw him in the movie. And after seeing the trailers and the actual movie, I can say that no one else could play The Joker as perfectly as he did. As much as I’d love to see The Joker in the 3rd movie, I really hope they don’t recast. I don’t think anyone could do the role justice after Heath’s amazing performance. Oh, and look out for the pencil scene and the nurse scene. I think that those two scenes demonstrated The Joker’s mix of comedy and danger. One of my favorite scenes has to be The Joker and Batman’s interaction in the interrogation room (and then again later on in the building). As The Joker says, Batman completes him. There couldn’t be one without the other, and The Joker points out that they’ll be doing this dance forever since Batman refuses to kill. They have the ultimate hero-villain relationship.
Now the question is, what will happen in the 3rd movie? We know what the relationship between Batman and the city will be (will Gordon be able to keep a secret?). We got to see Two Face in full force (man, that makeup was creepy), but it’s open ended as to whether he’ll be back. I’d hate for him to be like the Spidey villains and only have one huge battle with the hero and then die, never to return again. Unlike Batman Begins, The Dark Knight didn’t establish a definite villain for the next movie. I’d love to see Chris Nolan tackle a villain that hasn’t been used in the movies before (as he did with Ra’s and Scarecrow in BB). I hope that the 3rd movie will be amazing and not a disaster like Spider-Man 3 (since both TDK and Spidey 2 were perfect). I have faith that Nolan, David Goyer, and the cast will work to make sure the 3rd movie lives up to expectations.
GO SEE THE DARK KNIGHT!!!
P.S. There’s a death in the movie that had me going “WHAT???” since it went against canon. But it all worked out, and the person got to move to the position he’s in the comics currently. Thank goodness cause I would have cried since I cried during another of this actor’s character’s death in another movie. And is the girl known only as “Gordon’s Daughter” in the credits, Barbara Gordon (aka the future Batgirl)? She was pretty young and wasn’t even present in Batman Begins. Then again, little James Gordon was a toddler in BB yet has aged to about 7-9 years old in TDK even though it’s only supposed to be a year later in the movie universe. It’d be interesting if Jim and his wife get divorced in the 3rd movie as they do in the comics because Jim gets custody of Babs while his wife takes their son (who he worked so hard to save in TDK). So maybe there will be more Babs in the 3rd movie. Oh well, we’ll see.

Dark Knight Week Begins!!!
The Dark Knight opens this Friday, July 18th. Joe and I have midnight showing tickets, and I am sooooooo excited. I dance around and scream every time a DK commercial comes on. In honor of the movie, I’m planning to watch Batman Begins again beforehand, watch as many of the talk shows that they guest on as I can, and read The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and The Killing Joke (newly purchased at a comic book sale). I’m also left with the biggest dilemma of the week: which Batman shirt should I wear to the midnight showing?
In honor of the first day of Dark Knight week, I’m posting clips of Christian Bale on The Today Show (in which he gives a great answer to all those questions about whether playing The Joker contributed to Heath Ledger’s death) and Gary Oldman on The View (the only place where he talks not only about a naked Daniel Radcliffe, but it’s also revealed that Oldman is uncircumcised. Thanks ladies!). Enjoy!!!
UPDATE: Gary Oldman on Conan O’Brien. I love that he made Daniel Radcliffe cry during one of the Harry Potter movies. Amazing.
UPDATE 2: Gary Oldman on The Early Show. This has become the Gary Oldman post. =)
Summer Movies So Far
I’ve decided to rank the summer movies I’ve seen so far based on their awesomeness. Then again, I haven’t seen anything that I haven’t liked yet his summer. We’ll see how much this list changes once The Dark Knight opens on July 18th. =) I CANNOT WAIT!!! (And I am so excited that I am already considering being The Joker for Halloween. Sweet!)
1. Iron Man: The only thing that can beat this is The Dark Knight. Until then, it will remain the Best Movie of 2008. I could see it over and over and over. It’s the summer of The Downey!!! Submit to it!
2. The Incredible Hulk: Edward Norton + Tim Roth + having them both shirtless + a pretty cool Hulk = HULK SMASH THE COMPETITION!!! There better be a sequel!
3. Wall-E: Pixar can do no wrong. I think they’re incapable of making a horrible movie. And I would love a M-O plush toy. Or a real M-O to follow me around.
4. Kung Fu Panda: SKADOOSH! That is the word of the summer.
5. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls: It was slightly strange, but it had lots of greaser Shia (looking like Marlon Brando) and Harrison Ford kicking ass.
6. Sex and the City The Movie: This movie made me cry (a lot). I’m glad that the girls were able to have a happy ending and that Mr. Big (Chris Noth) got yelled out a lot since I am not in NYC to yell at him personally.
7. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl: I read the American Girl books when I was younger, and I loved this adaptation of the books about a young girl during the Depression. Abigail Breslin has to be the cutest kid actor in America.
8. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian: This is lower cause it did not have enough Edmund and was trying to force a Caspian/Susan romance. Not cool.
9. Speed Racer: Plot-wise, it’s not as strong as the other movies, but it’s still very entertaining and full of pretty colors (and people) to look at it. Sensory overload for all!
